The countdown to the start of NFL Training Camp 2016 is coming fast with teams eyeing their start dates at the end of July. This is also a perfect time of the year for both daily fantasy football players and season long fantasy owners to start preparing for the upcoming 2016-2017 NFL season.
Now for us these next few weeks we will turn our attention to each position around the NFL as well as fantasy sleepers, fantasy busts and a deeper look at the potential impact the 2016 NFL Rookie Class will have for fantasy owners this season. Than as we approach the middle of August we will start to look at different approaches on how mock drafts should look for standard leagues and PPR leagues.
That being said today we are here to debate a few key player matchups for the 2016 NFL season at a few of the key positions on the football field.
Odell Beckham Jr or Antonio Brown: The big question here is what should you do if you are on the draft board with both of these wide receivers left on the board? Brown finished second in the NFL with 1,834 yards while Beckham was tied for second with 13 touchdown catches just one off the league leader. For us we are giving the nudge to Beckham simply based on the fact the Giants have no real elusive running back while the Steelers should have a healthy LeVeon Bell to play a key role in the teams passing attack out of the back field.
Drew Brees or Tom Brady: It is crazy to think that two of the top Fantasy Quarterback options in 2016 is two aging veterans. In the end they are two of the top five options on the field but which one deserves to be picked over each other? For us this goes to Brees in season long leagues while Brady might be the better option in daily contests on FanDuel and DraftKings. The reason being is we are not exactly sure how the suspension situation will end up and we can’t afford to go with Brady in the late first early second round while not having him for the first four games.
Corey Coleman, Will Fuller or Laquon Treadwell: This is a really difficult debate as Coleman might be the only option at wide receiver for the Cleveland Browns this season while both Fuller and Treadwell have talented wide receiver options surrounding them. For us we are going with Treadwell first than Fuller with Coleman being our third option of this group. Treadwell will have a chip on his shoulder to prove all his critics as well as the other 22 teams that elected to pass him up that he has what it takes to be an elite wide receiver in the NFL.
Todd Gurley or Latavius Murray: Which of these running backs playing out West is the better draft option? For us we love Gurley’s big play potential on any play the downside for us is the question marks this team has not only at the quarterback position but also at the wide receiver position. On the other hand we expect Jeff Fisher to have the Los Angeles Rams to play in week 1 with their new beginning. Than you have Murray who has one of the up and coming offenses in the NFL built around Derek Carr and wide receiver Amari Cooper. For us we are giving the slight edge to Murray in this matchup but that could change over the next few weeks depending on how the qb situation in Los Angeles is looking.
