The 2016 NFL season doesn’t kick off for fantasy owners till September but that won’t stop the fantasy owners from preparing. That preparation starts tonight as the 2016 NFL Draft opens up with the first round while rounds two and three takes place tomorrow night. The final four rounds of the 2016 NFL draft will wrap up on Saturday.

While all the rounds of the NFL draft are important the first two days are the key ones for fantasy owners. Just look back to the 2014 NFL draft as Jordan Matthews wasn’t the top wide receiver to come off the board but was a key pick by the Philadelphia Eagles on the second day of the draft while delivering for his fantasy owners. Matthews appeared in all 16 games catching 67 passes for 872 yards and eight touchdowns.

Two of the top fantasy options coming out of the 2016 NFL Draft are quarterbacks Jared Goff and Carson Wentz. For us though each of these players will be a gamble for fantasy owners in their first seasons while neither are guaranteed to start the season as starting quarterback.

That being said here are a few players who we like from the 2016 NFL Draft that will be key fantasy contributors during the 2016 NFL Season.

Corey Coleman, Wide Receiver – Coleman won’t be the first wide receiver to come off the board but he should be a prime time threat as a slot wide receiver. The former Baylor Bears wide receiver might lack size but he does have excellent speed that will translate to the field. Could you imagine Coleman falling to a team like the New England Patriots, Pittsburgh Steelers or the Cincinnati Bengals?

Derrick Henry, Running Back – Now Ezekiel Elliott looks to be the best running back in this draft the big concern is how high he might go in fantasy drafts. While Todd Gurley rewarded his fantasy owners last season we aren’t as high on Elliott entering the 2016 NFL Season. That being said one name to consider is the Alabama Crimson Tide running back who should be able to use his size in the red zone.

Paxton Lynch, Quarterback – Yes we know he might be the third or even the fourth best quarterback in this draft but if finds a team that is need he could be the sleeper pick of the quarterback class. Just because he doesn’t go number one overall doesn’t mean he can’t put fantasy numbers up. Lynch has the size at six foot seven to possible become a Joe Flacco type quarterback. The Memphis quarterback also posseses solid speed for his size to go along with a quick release.

Kenny Lawler, Wide Receiver – We could have easily thrown Laquon Treadwell on this list but he is to easy of a choice. That being said Lawler is an interesting case with solid size at six foot two but also has the strength and long arms to play at a bigger height that should prove to be a threat when his team gets in to the red zone. Another key strength that goes under notice is his ability to track the ball while finding a way to put his body in position to make the play.

Nick Vannett, Tight End – The tight end position is a hard position to gauge in the NFL draft as well as for fantasy drafts. Just look back a few years as we saw Eric Ebron go high on the draft board while his success never translated on the field. Vannett might be the second, third or even the fourth tight end off the board but his six will be hard to not look at. Vannett showed during his time at Ohio State he has the ability to pull in passes while being contested.
