Top 5 NHL Scoring Lines as of December 4th 2014

It is possible during a fantasy draft to acquire an entire team’s line if you have the intuition and the desire to do so.  There are good and bad aspects behind this strategy, for every goal that is scored on that line there will be 3 plus ratings, chances are high of getting 2-3 points for the single goal. The down sides are the opposite with 3 minus ratings for a goal against while the line is out, another downside can be when the team has a light week or are on a tough road-trip and the line is not producing as they were.  Below are some of the top scoring lines in the NHL at the moment.

The top scoring line belongs to the Pittsburg Penguins who are the 3rd highest scoring team; with Chris Kunitz, Sidney Crosby and Patrick Hornqvist.  This line has combined for 29 goals, 49 assists for a total of 78 points in 24 games.  Kunitz was recently injured and his place has been taken by left wing Nick Spaling who has 3 goals, 5 assists for 8 points in 24 games so far this season.  The combination of Crosby and a pylon will probably put up points, however the addition of Hornqvist over the off-season seems to have paid off dividends for the Penguins.

The next highest scoring line in the NHL is the combination of Jamie Benn, Jason Spezza and Tyler Seguin for the Dallas Stars who are he 10th highest scoring team.  The line total for this combination is 31 goals, 43 assists for 74 points.  This line was also put together with an off-season deal bringing in Spezza to the already formidable duo of Benn and Seguin.  Many expected Spezza to center the second line with Hemsky who was also acquired this past summer.

The third highest scoring line belongs to the highest scoring team in the first quarter of the season; the Tampa Bay Lightning’s second line consisting of Ondrej Palat, Tyler Johnson and Nikita Kucherov.  They have combined for 24 goals, 43 assists for 67 points.

Tampa Bay first line consisting of Alex Killorn, Steven Stamkos and Ryan Callahan is the next highest scoring line; this trio has combined for 33 goals, 29 assists for 62 points. There are many popular and high scoring lines out there to be mentioned as well, some are well known such as Anaheim’s Getzlaf line, that 70’s line for the Los Angeles Kings or other top lines in the league.

The 5th highest scoring line belongs to the Calgary Flames with rookie Johnny Gaudreau, Jiri Hudler and recent addition rookie Josh Jooris.  Combining for 23 goals, 33 assists for 56 points for the 5th highest scoring team in the league and probably the biggest surprise for a team that was expected to be in the running for the first overall draft pick sweepstakes.  There is still a lot of games left to play but with the combinations of players there could be a good strategy to ensure consistent productivity for your fantasy hockey league.
