Top Fantasy Baseball Short Stop Guide for 2016

The short stop position may be one of the biggest question marks for fantasy owners entering the 2016 Major League Baseball season. While we have come to realization that Troy Tulowitzki continues to be the top option that could all change in 2016 as the Houston Astros short stop Carlos Correa could challenge him for that honor after a breakout rookie campaign.

Now outside of those two options the rest of the list has a ton of question marks and concerns. Could J.J. Hardy return to a 20 plus home run hitter? Will Xander Bogaerts find a way to hit .320 again for the Boston Red Sox? Who will replace Jhonny Peralta in the St. Louis Cardinals lineup?

Then you have the Los Angeles Dodgers Corey Seager who will be looking to continue his development as one of the top young shortstops in all of baseball. Meanwhile out in Colorado the Rockies will look to turn to another option at short stop while Jose Reyes is out on paid leave while his domestic abuse case is going on.

With all that said the short stop position should be one of the more interesting fantasy positions to build a lineup around. Here is our 2016 MLB Fantasy Baseball Short Stop Guide.

Top Fantasy Short Stop Options in 2016:

Carlos Correa, Houston Astros: The Astros short stop is our top fantasy option entering the upcoming season. Despite appearing in just 99 games last year, Correa managed to hit .279 with 22 doubles, 22 home runs and 68 runs batted in. The former Astros top prospect will now enter his first full season in the Majors with a solid chance at hitting 30 home runs while driving in over 100 runs.

Troy Tulowitzki, Toronto Blue Jays: After a down season in 2015 where Tulowitzki finished with just 17 home runs we expect him to bounce back this season. While the Rogers Centre might not be Coors Field it is still one of the top hitters ball park in all of baseball.

Short Stops to avoid in 2016:

Asdrubal Cabrera, New York Mets: Many fantasy owners might look to Cabrera as a solid fantasy option. For us despite the fact he is coming off a 15 home run season last year we don’t expect the aging veteran to continue that type of production in a Mets lineup.

Breakout Candidates at Short Stops in 2016:

Trevor Story, Colorado Rockies: The Rockies are currently looking for a replacement for Reyes who will be out for at least a few more weeks till his domestic abuse trial begins in early April. That answer could be Story who has been solid this spring at the plate picking up four home runs. Add in the fact that if he lands the starting short stop job he will be hitting at Coors Field for at least 81 games makes him a legit threat for fantasy owners.

Fantasy Position Outlook:

The short stop position is a major concern for fantasy owners entering the season outside of possible Carlos Correa. Tulowitzki can’t seem to stay healthy to appear in at least 140 games, J.J. Hardy has lost his home run abilities and the rest of the list all stack up pretty even. If you can grab Correa up in season long leagues we suggest taking him if not pick up Story in the later rounds.
